Caernarvon Castle is in the heart of King Edward's iron ring and was built on the shoreline on the southern end of the Menai Strait between North Wales and Anglesey. It was strategically placed on the shore across from Anglesey, which provided rich agricultural land for farming, and the Menai Strait provided speedy access around the coast to supply the other castles.
King Edward made sure his son, the first English Prince of Wales, was born here in 1284 and the Castle has since gained worldwide fame as the setting for the Investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales.
Its historic ranking has been recognised with its status as a World Heritage Site.
